The Housing Choice Voucher program assists low income, elderly and disabled families to afford rental housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhomes and apartments.
The participant is free to choose any housing unit that meets the requirements of the housing choice voucher program. A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord and the family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord.
If you are interested in applying for a voucher you can access our online application here or an application can be picked up at our office. The application can be typed or handwritten. No documents are required with the application. Your documentation (ie. birth certificates, social security card, proof of income) will be required when you are scheduled for an interview for eligibility.
If you are a landlord and would be interested in placing your rental house on the housing choice voucher program, please call us at (361) 643.-5014 for more information.
